Santa Clara is the capital of the central province of Cuba. Its magnificent geographic position facilitates its quick access from the major tourist resorts in the country. It was founded in 1689 by a group of families originally from the town of San Juan de los Remedios. It was also the scene of one the final battles waged by Che Guevara, which eventually led to the victory of the Revolution on January 1, 1959. Santa Clara has a great scientific potential and also solid culture and long history, as can be viewed in the Provincial Museum of Decorative Arts or at the La Caridad Theatre.
